The Story of the EBBA Lounge Chair
Born from a desire to move beyond the flat world of 2D, the EBBA Lounge Chair marks our first step into physical design—a blend of bold form, everyday function, and the curiosity to explore what a chair could truly be. This is the story of where it all began.
As the founder behind KAOI, I spent years shaping ideas in 2D. My world was built on screens: logos, layouts, color palettes. Design moved quickly, fluidly, but something about it began to feel... intangible. I didn’t just want to see design—I wanted to hold it. Build it. Sit with it.
One random evening, after hopping off a river boat and heading toward the Bangkok Design Center for a breather, I stumbled across a book of iconic chairs. I flipped it open just to pass time—and suddenly, I was hooked. Page after page, I saw how chairs—yes, chairs—could be poetic, rebellious, sculptural, emotional. They weren’t just functional objects. They were ideas.
That’s when something clicked. I went home, opened my sketchbook (which, at the time, was packed with logos and typography), and started drawing. What came out didn’t exactly scream “chair” at first glance, but that was the whole point...
Of course, sketching is one thing—sitting on it is another. So I called up THINKK Studio, the pros who knew how to make ideas real and comfortable. We worked back and forth, bringing structure to my chaos. And when I finally saw the first EBBA chair in the factory, it felt like meeting my firstborn. Weird, wonderful, and completely real.
EBBA was more than a first design—it was the turning point. The bridge from my life in 2D to a whole new world of physical design. It opened the door to people, places, and a kind of creative challenge that felt both scary and addictive.
